Abstract

The article explores the piano legacy of the great composer Komitas through his choreographic suite "Msho Shoror". It presents note examples of individual dances within the suite cycle, which consists of six dances: "Sharan", "Shoror", "Naz", "Trnotsi", "Kokh", "Tchosh". The article gives a descriptive theoretical analysis of all dances, highlighting the features and imagery of various ancient genres. The choreographic suite exemplifies a deep national style and color, reflecting the profound essence of ritual dances

Author Biography

Zaruhi David Ghazaryan, Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory

(b. 24.12.1972, Yerevan, RA). She completed her education at Yerevan Specialized Secondary Music School after Tchaikovsky in 1990 and graduated from the Piano Department of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory in 1995. Following this, she pursued a postgraduate course at YSC from 1995 to 1997, specializing in piano playing. Since 1996, she has been teaching at the 2nd Chair of Professional Piano and Organ of YSC, initially as an assistant in A. Babakhanyan's class, then as a lecturer from 1999 onwards. Her career progressed, and she became a lecturer in 2002 and an Associate Professor at the Concertmaster Training Chair in 2008. Throughout her teaching career, many students graduated from her class, who today work in various musical educational institutions of Armenia - music and art schools, music colleges after R. Melikyan and A. Babajanyan, in different cities of Russia and abroad as a piano teacher and concertmaster. Her students have participated in the "Renaissance" international competition-festival, winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd class prizes, and in the "Borjomi" International Music Festival in Georgia, getting an award in the category "Best Concertmaster". They also perform as accompanists in various national and city competitions ("Art Music", City Hall competition-festival, etc.). Ghazaryan also served as a jury member for various prestigious competitions and festivals, including the 5th Republican competition of concertmasters named after Heghine Ter-Ghevondyan, where she was also a member of the organizing committee for the 6th competition. Notably, she participated as a jury member for the "Piano" category of the "Odessa Music Olymp" international online competition for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023, and in 2023, she served on the jury for the "Piano" category of the Universe Art International Festival. Additionally, she contributed as a jury member for the solo singers' contest named after Tamar Shahnazaryan held in April (2023). She has edited and compiled collected works, authored educational manuals and contributed scientific articles, with her latest publication in 2022. Notably, her article "On Some Features of Komitas's Piano Legacy" is included in volume Z of the yearbook of the Komitas Museum-Institute, and Arno Babajanyan is the editor of the collection "Songs" for voice and piano, published in the same year. Since 2005, she has been serving as the secretary of the Concertmaster Department, and more recently, also as the secretary of the entire Piano faculty. In May 2022, Ghazaryan was appointed as the head of the Concertmaster Department of the Piano Faculty.
