Abstract

Composer, musicologist, PhD candidate at the Institute of Arts of NAS RA, and editor-in-chief of the monthly newspaper Yerazhisht (Musician), Armine Valerik Atoyan. - “Some Features of the Musical Language of Komitas՛ Choirs”.The article examines the characteristic features of the musical language in Komitas՛' choral works, based on his choral arrangements of folk songs. It explores the scale structure, harmonic language, texture, meter-rhythm, and other expressive means.

Author Biography

Armine Valerik Atoyan, Institute of Arts of the NAS of the RA

(b. 1986 in Spitak, Armenia), musicologist, composer, pedagogue, lecturer.In 2006-2011 she has been study-ing at the Komitas YSC, Department of Singing and Music theory, receiving a Bachelordegree in Musicology, and in 2009-2012 she has been studying at the Komitas YSC, Department of Singing and Music theory, receiving a Bachelor degree in Composition (as a second specialty). In 2011-2012 she studied for a Master’s Degree in Musicology at the Komitas YSC, Department of Singing and Music theory. In 2012 A. Atoyan proceeded for postgraduate studies at the Music Department of the Institute of Arts of the NAS of the RA. In 2010-2011 she has been in the concerts organized for the young composers. In 2012 she participated in the "Dialogue of Cultures" VI International Conference and I International Competition for Young Composers in Gyumri, and won the third prize. In 2013-2015 she participated in the VIII, IX, and X Conferences of Young Art Historians. Since 2012 A. Atoyan is a singerPharos Chamber Choir. In 2012-2013 she has been teaching the theory of music at K. Sarajyan Music School. In 2012-2016 she has been teaching the theory of music at Gh. Saryan Art School. In 2014-2016, 2018 she is working at the YSCPublishing as the Chief Editor of the "Yerazhisht" monthly. Since 2018 A. Atoyan is teaching music theory at the Armavir State College of Arts. A. Atoyan has been the host of various classical music concerts, organizer of open classes and events dedicated to Komitas and to Armenian choir music. In 2014 A. Atoyan became a member of the Union of Journalists of the RA. She is the author of a series of analytical and research works on Armenian music, Armenian composers and music performers well as concert reviews and numerous articles in "Yerazhshtakan Hayastan" academic journal, in scientific collections,in newspapers "Yerashisht", "Azg", etc.
