Abstract

2nd-Year Bachelor's Degree Student at the Musicology Department of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, Vahe Romik Gevorgyan. - “Episodes from the history of Vaspurakan folk singing (Research and Materials)”.The folk heritage of Vaspurakan is one of the finest expressions of our people's spiritual and cultural legacy. Some distinctive features of the folk singing tradition from this ethnographic region have been thoroughly studied and presented by the renowned ethnomusicologist and folklorist Alina Pahlevanyan. In the present article, we explore the history of Vaspurakan 's folk singing, focusing on the period spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that, as a result of the Armenian Genocide, the folk song tradition also fell victim to acts of hostility and destruction. This historical circumstance led to the emergence of new song genres within folk music, along with novel elements of musical thinking and expressive means.
