Abstract

In this book review, the author provides an overview of the extensive, meticulously executed work carried out by Anahit Kirakosyan. The volume serves as an excellent foundational resource for anyone conducting research in the field of Armenian traditional folk musical instruments. It enables researchers to navigate virtually the entire corpus of published literature on the subject, saving an immense amount of time and effort during the source-gathering stage. The compiled references encompass monographs, essays, scientific and journalistic articles, linguistic and encyclopedic dictionaries, conference proceedings, various scholarly studies, and papers presenting diverse perspectives on Armenian folk instrumentation. Furthermore, it contains educational curricula, instructional manuals, and articles dedicated to individual performers, performance techniques, and master instrument makers.

Author Biography

Hrant Hovhannes Khachikyan

(art historian, medievalist). Graduated from the Yerevan State Bryusov Linguistic University (1996), specialized in English and history; Russian Gnesins Academy of Music in Moscow (2001), specialized in opera and chamber music singing, teaching; Postgraduate studies at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory (2003), specialized in solo singing; Doctoral studies at the Geneva State University (2014), specialized in art history, middle ages; Geneva State University (2017), specialized in the French language and the French civilization. Laureate and diploma owner at International vocal and theatrical competitions. Researcher of ancient Armenian manuscripts. Participant in International scientific conferences with scientific speeches. Author of scientific, encyclopedic, methodological and journalistic articles in art history, linguistics, musicology. Author of curricula and of the textbook for musical universities and conservatories "Bases of Sound Formation in Vocal Art" in Armenian. Member of the editorial board of the International scientific journal "Musical Armenia ".
