Abstract

“The Art of the Lecturing Technique. Scientific and Methodological Essay”. In her scientific and methodological article, Zhanna Zurabyan examines the discipline of Lecturing Technique as part of the educational curriculum for musicologists. The importance of the ability of a lecturer-musicologist to work with a wide audience is highlighted. Among the necessary professional skills, the author emphasizes the need for a lecturer to have a good memory, rich vocabulary, flexibility of mind, and agile speech apparatus.

Author Biography

Zhanna Petros Zurabyan, Yerevan State Conservatory

(born 30.08.1941, Kirovakan, present Vanadzor). In 1966 graduated from the Department of Musicology at the YSC (prof. A. Barsamyan's class). Since 1977 she is a lecturer at the Department of Music History at the YSC. From 1963 to 1980 she taught Music Theory at Yerevan Sayat-Nova Music School. In 1984, Zurabyan defended her PhD thesis, she became Docent (1988), and Professor (1996). Since 1992 she was the Academic Secretary at the YSC. She has been involved in public and administration activities and served on various jury panels and arts councils. She was a member of Women's republican council at the Prime Minister's Office. Since 1981 she is the member of the Union of Composers of the RA, from 1982 to 1991 as the Chair of the Section of Musicology; in 1982-2013 as a Board member of the UC. Zurabyan was awarded with the Movses Khorenatsi Presidential Medal of RA (2013). She is the author of the following monographs: Alexander Ajemyan, Yerevan, 2006; The Intonational Origins, and National and Thematic Identity of the Armenian Symphonic Music (1950-1960), Yerevan, 2002 (in Russian); In the World of Music (in co-authorship with R. Esayan), Vol. 2; The Armenian Opera, Yerevan, 2006. She is the author of more than forty articles in scientific collections, music encyclopedias (Yerevan, London-Chicago, Detroit, etc.), and in periodicals. She presented papers at various international and republican conferences (Yerevan, Moscow, Leningrad, Tallinn, Vilnius, Dushanbe, Cambridge (USA), etc.). Presented opening speeches for numerous concerts and events, organized by UC of the RA, the Musical Society of the RA, by the Schoolchildren Philharmony, the 'Knowledge' Society, and the YSC (400). She is the author of radio and television programs, including series of programs, such as The Armenian Romance, Demirchyan-75, Music Encyclopedia, The Russian Classics, Your Favorite Composer, New Works of Armenian Composers (more than 200 broadcasts), etc. Zhanna Zurabyan is a professional editor of music textbooks and manuals.
