Abstract

2nd-Year Bachelor's Degree Student at the Musicology Department of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, Vahe Romik Gevorgyan. - “The Armenian folk song in the context of cultural Genocide (Dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of VerjineSvazlian)”.The folkloric materials and eyewitness-survivor testimonies of the Armenian Genocide recorded by the renowned folklorist, genocide scholar, Doctor of Philological Sciences, and Professor Verzhine Svazlian hold exceptional value not only for Genocide Studies but also for a number of related disciplines, including Armenian musicology. The study of the aforementioned recordings, as well as other materials, makes it possible to view the Armenian folk song in the context of cultural genocide. It is evident that Armenian musical culture also fell victim to the genocidal policy of the Turks, and later the Azerbaijanis; however, the study of this issue from a musicological perspective has largely remained in the shadows. Worth mentioning are the articles by Robert Atayan and Anahit Baghdasaryan, in which the authors, pursuing different research objectives, have touched upon this topic, to a certain extent. Within the scope of the present article, through the study of documentary and folkloric materials, we have attempted to present the study of genocide-related issues from the standpoint of Armenian musicology
