Abstract

Geghuni Chitchyan is one of the brightest representatives of the older generation of contemporary Armenian composers. In the center of her creative interests, along with other genres, is vocal music. G. Chitchyan is the author of nine vocal cycles, one of which the "Holy Soul" was written in the 90s of the XX century to the words of Archbishop Nerses Pozapalyan. It attracts by the sophistication of the manner in which the poetic text is embodied in music, the frankness and trustfulness of musical intonation, exquisite harmonious taste, and, of course, the originality of thinking, in which the features of the national musical vocabulary are refracted through the prism of modern composer's writing. The artistic merits of the cycle make it one of the best achievements of Armenian chamber vocal music.
